Jens' Previous Jobs
From Protein Analysis and Design Group
Post Doc
Not so incredibly long ago (May 2001 - Sep 2003) I worked in the McCammon group at UCSD in San Diego. There I worked on protein kinases and protein pKa calculations
Before that (May 2000 - May 2001) I worked on Protein folding and protein stability in the Serrano group at the EMBL. Fold-X was the main outcome of that project. You can use the WWW interface to calculate protein folding pathways or to calculate the effect on protein stability of point mutations. Fold-X has taken on a life of its own after I stopped working on it, and now there's a new and fancier version available.
PhD
I worked on Electrostatics & pKa calculations During my Ph.D.
I was a member of the Vriend group at the EMBL. The Vriend group is now dissolved as Gert went back to Holland to become director of the CMBI in Nijmegen.
With Gert, I studied the electrostatic properties of enzymes, and methods to calculate pKa values and electrostatic fields in proteins.
I also made the pHMovies that you can construct using some simple Python scripts.
Back home
Before my time with Gert I was working at Novozymes and at the University of Copenhagen, and before that I grew up in Næstved in Denmark.
